The roof is one of the most important parts of a home, and it is important to learn about the condition of the roof before making a home purchase. According to the American Society of Home Inspectors’ standards of practice, home inspectors are only required to inspect roofs that are safe and accessible. If walking the roof would be dangerous or if the roof is not accessible, the use of a drone for the inspection is helpful. Without a drone and or roof access, the roofing can only be inspected by observation of what’s visible from the ground.

Benefits Of An Aerial Drone Inspection

Access hard-to-reach areas. A home inspector may not be able to safely access all parts of your rooftop. Certain areas are too steep for foot traffic or, in some cases, too damaged to walk safely. A drone allows the inspector to stay safely on the ground while directing the drone to targetted areas.

Get a holistic view of your roof. With a drone every roof is accessible. It can fly and hover over any rooftop regardless of its size, shape, or condition and capture details with color pictures or video of shingles, chimney cap, gutters, and solar panels.

Identify potential issues or determine damage. A drone can identify problem areas that may result in leaks and water damage. The inspector may find roofing issues like missing or broken shingles, chipped tiles, or flashing that is rusting or missing. Thermal imaging can also determine heat loss and general energy efficiency.

Survey the surrounding land of a property. Drones might fly over trees and nearby power lines in order to verify their spacing. Drones can be used to give a complete aerial view of the property and the neighboring areas.

How Our Drone Inspections Work 

> Whether you chose to combine it with your home inspection or request it as a standalone service, our drone inspections are performed by our FAA 107 and 137 certified, licensed and insured drone pilot.

> During the aerial inspection, our pilot operates the drone, camera and video while our home inspector directs the pilot to the points of special interest and views of different angles of the home and/or surrounding property.

> Under normal circumstances, the drone inspection itself is quickly finished. Once we collect the data, pictures, and footage taken by the drone, our inspector analyzes this data to obtain the full value from the inspection.

> The client is then provided a full inspection report that may include 5K ultra high definition images, thermal imaging, and/or footage, as applicable.
